“One Hour from Tokyo: Discover Japan’s Best Outdoor Brands at Yellowknife Outdoor Shop”

Located in the coastal city of Hiratsuka, just about an hour from Tokyo,
Yellowknife Outdoor Shop offers a carefully curated selection of Japanese outdoor apparel brands and high-quality gear from around the world.

Guided by the concept of “Light but Comfortable,” the store brings together products that balance minimal weight with real performance—perfect for hikers exploring Japan’s trails.
A certified guide of the Japan Mountain Guides Association is part of the team, ensuring that every piece of gear is selected with deep field experience and practical knowledge.

Yellowknife remains a small, local shop with a focus on authenticity rather than scale—an approachable place where visitors can discover how Japanese design meets global outdoor innovation.

Here are a few of the apparel brands available at our shop.

1.MAN-NEN-ROU(迷迭香)

Named after “rosemary” in Japanese, MAN-NEN-ROU is a Japanese outdoor apparel brand that launched in the spring–summer of 2020.
Born between the city and the mountains, the brand captures a uniquely Japanese sensibility—designing garments that bridge urban life and the outdoors with quiet functionality and refined texture.

Rather than pursuing technical performance alone, MAN-NEN-ROU focuses on creating “outdoor wear with space to breathe”—clothing that feels effortless, blends naturally into daily life, and invites you to enjoy the atmosphere of materials and design.
Each piece is meant to be worn without thought, whether you’re on a trail, at a campsite, or walking through the city. It’s about comfort, subtlety, and the beauty found in simplicity.

2.STATIC

Born from a deep love of mountains, rivers, valleys, and the sea, STATIC is a Japanese outdoor brand dedicated to environmental consciousness and responsible production. They design gear for adventures—whether sliding on fresh snow, feeling the bite of ice, or climbing dry rock— but always with one question in mind: how can we sustain this lifestyle? The answer became STATIC. Drawing on natural fabrics like yak winter fleece, recycled fibers, and plant-derived synthetics, each piece reflects the brand’s commitment to the earth and the trail.

With a philosophy rooted in outdoor experience and thoughtful manufacturing, STATIC offers functional apparel that respects both nature and the wearer's journey.

3.AXESQUIN

Founded in 1988, AXESQUIN is a Japanese outdoor apparel brand dedicated to crafting functional and comfortable clothing for mountains that change with the seasons.

From nearby hills to the Japanese Alps, their garments are designed to cope with shifting weather, steep terrain, and varied use-cases.

Rooted in the idea of “enjoying the mountains in all their four-season variety”, AXESQUIN blends thoughtful fabrics, technical construction, and a Japanese sensibility of comfort and adaptability.

4.TETON BROS.

Founded in 2007, Teton Bros. was born from the founder Nori Suzuki’s experience in nature-both in Japan and in Wyoming’s Grand Teton range.

Combining that mountaineering spirit with Japanese craftsmanship, the brand designs technical outdoor apparel refined through feedback from guides and athletes in the field.

Their mission: to create garments that are both elegant and high-performing, with every element serving a functional purpose.

5.JRD by Jarld

After graduating from Bunka Fashion College with a degree in apparel design, founder Shuhei Shimura worked for about 20 years as a designer/director at various apparel companies. Bringing experience from the New York and Milan fashion weeks, he launched JRD by JARLD—a unisex brand rooted in his love for the outdoors. The concept: “functional garments that can be worn for camping and hiking, and then straight to drinks without changing.” Designed with high fashion sensibility yet built for outdoor use, JRD offers gender-neutral items that combine performance fabrics with city style.

6.BRING

BRING is a Japanese apparel brand established by JEPLAN, Inc. with the core concept of “making clothes from clothes.”

Originating from the “FUKU-FUKU” project (launched in 2009) that collected thousands of tons of used garments, BRING develops chemical-recycled polyester from these textiles and produces new clothing under a circular economy model.

The brand offers functional, everyday wear made of recycled materials—with an emphasis on sustainability, inclusive sizing (all-gender), and designs that work both for urban life and light outdoor use.
